My Integrative Approach

mentalhealth vermont

People who are struggling need a genuine connection and a safe, compassionate space to transform not only how they feel but how they approach the challenges in their lives. My passion is to help you rediscover joy and build resilience in the face of life’s difficulties, and this starts with connection.

I begin with understanding how your thoughts, behaviors, and emotions influence your mood and overall well-being. Together, we’ll uncover patterns that may contribute to depression or other mood challenges and explore ways to shift them, creating a foundation for lasting emotional balance.

I also draw on the latest research, some of which highlights the role of mitochondrial health and gut health in mental well-being. Mitochondria, the "powerhouses" of our cells, are essential for energy production and cellular health. Studies have shown that mitochondrial dysfunction can contribute to depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders, often through impaired energy production and increased oxidative stress. Research into the role of the gut in mental health demonstrates a clear relationship as well. While there is not a lot of research about hormones and mental health, I believe and have seen a connection.

By addressing these and other root causes—through nutritional support, lifestyle changes, and targeted therapies—we can create new opportunities for healing and growth. My work, therefore, is rooted in a commitment to connection—listening deeply, honoring your story, and co-creating a path to greater resilience, and optimal well-being.

My goal is to provide personalized, compassionate care that helps you move toward a more vibrant and fulfilling life.

Medication Management

Integrative psychiatry doesn’t mean anti-medication — I can help you find the best medication regimen that helps you feel better without causing unnecessary side effects, and I can also help you reduce your need for medication by using holistic methods to give you extra support.

I also offer medication de-prescribing if that seems like something that is safely possible

Mindfulness & Spirituality

The best medication regimen in the world won’t help if your habits aren’t serving your mental health. It’s hard to change and I can help you take tiny steps forward that will create massive positive results.

“Spiritual psychiatry” is a practice that includes taking into account spiritual or religious experiences, traditions, practices and beliefs in the assessment and treatment of a person.

Therapy

My approach is based on supportive psychotherapy, CBT, and compassionate inquiry. Don’t get too caught up in the terms, though—the important thing for you to know is that I start the therapy process by listening to you and hearing your unique story, and then I give you concrete tools to help you understand yourself and free yourself from negative patterns.

Integrative Nutrition

As a certified holistic nutrition coach, I may incorporate recommended nutritional options for addressing anxiety, depression, and mood lability as well as hormonal imbalances, providing you (upon request) with a personalized meal plan.

While whole foods are the best source of nutrients, if appropriate I can also guide you in how to choose high-quality supplements that won’t break the bank.

Integrative Lab Testing

One of the limits of conventional lab testing is that just because your nutrient levels are in the “normal” range doesn’t mean you’re meeting all of your functional nutrient needs. I can work with you to use the latest technology in lab testing, to allow us to identify and correct underlying nutrient deficiencies or gut health issues that may be making it difficult to recover with medication alone.

Depression, anxiety, and ADHD are some of the conditions effected by hormonal cycling. We will track your cycle and I will give you options for hormone testing if appropriate.

Biofeedback & Wearable Devices

Heart Math (biofeedback) and brain stimulation devices coming soon! These offer a great alternative if you are sensitive to medication. There are other wearable devices to control anxiety.

**Some wearable devices can be covered by insurance, although it is more typical that they are not.

Next, I will send you my intake packet and I ask you to complete this prior to our first appointment. That gives me a chance to review your health background and goals before our first meeting.

At our first meeting, I will ask you a lot of questions to get to know you even better. It usually takes ate least two visits to come up with a treatment plan, so we will likely our second visit within 1-2 weeks.

After that, my recommendation for follow-up will depend on a number of factors including the complexity of our treatment plan. Usually I recommend follow-up every 1-4 weeks.

  • This is a 45- minute appointment that includes both therapy and medication management as well as review of lab results and strategizing our treatment plan.

    $200

  • This is the typical follow-up if you are using insurance. During this appointment, you can update me on your progress and we can address any medication-related issues. I may recommend changes based on this information.
